Respect for places, plants and animals

Last Sunday, during a walk in a Natural Reserve, I saw people pick up flowers (periwinkles to be precise) to replant them in their garden! I told them not to do it. They answered it was ONLY flowers! I replied that insects depend on them. But they didn’t care.

So, I’m angry because Reserves lack financal ressources to pay guards. What we need to be aware of, it is that there are plants that grow ONLY in preserved places, because they are protected by the law. And that insects, birds and other animals depend on them: insects feed on the nectar and in turn, are eaten by other insects or mammlas, etc. That is a whole system that we have to accept and respect.

Then if you are the kind of person who only want to find nice flowers for the garden, please, do consider this point and adopt a new behavior. You are not a selfish kid anymore. Act as a responsible grown-up and have a thought for other forms of life than yours.

Today, it was snowing during lunchtime and I was able to make photos of big crystals, half a cm wide ! I put them on the Wintertime page. Enjoy !

We’ve got a lot of snow in France and thanks to very special weather conditions, the crystals were huge, around 05. cm in diameter.

I was able able to take a picture. It’s not quite sharp but the shape is interesting.

Winter is THE season to try and identify animal footprints in the snow or in the mud. Here below, a few examples.

Woodpeckers drill dead trees to eat insects.
